title and italics from Rosa Parks

Have you ever been hurt and the place

tries to heal a bit, and you just pull

the scar off of it over and over again.

This is not a question. Have you ever

been abused and the bruise tries to heal,

and you just beat your own head against

the wall again. And then what do you do

with the good. Do you keep picking

at happiness until it bleeds on your new

white shirt. Have you ever seen love

coming and set a trap so you could

keep it, screaming in your basement.

And then do you return to the place

of healing hurt, to pull, pull the scar again.
